Emergency Response to Coastal Oil, Chemical and Inert Pollution from Shipping
You are in: News > Third and Final year of EROCIPS Project >
EROCIPS has now entered its third and final year. This final countdown of project delivery means a busy year ahead for our 16 Project Partners. After two years of working on the project we are looking to deliver a range of results on the development of an effective and timely response to coastal pollution from shipping. Our project Newsletter lists recent activities undertaken by our partners over the last quarter.
The results achieved to date have been internationally acknowledged. By the end of the Project in October 2007 we will have produced a number of recommendations, guidance and tools for handling maritime spills of oil and other substances. The Project’s aim is that these outputs are fully transferable to other countries and regions at risk of pollution from shipping.
EROCIPS consists of eight sub-projects, known as Work Packages. Each Work Package focuses on a different aspect of the Project, but together they represent a wide range of outputs which will strengthen each region’s local response to shipping incidents.
The project outcomes are disseminated nationally and internationally through a series of conferences and seminars. The first internationl EROCIPS Conference was held in Bordeaux on the 28th and 29th September 2006 and was well received by local, regional and international partners and stakeholders. A seminar organised by the Northern Irish Partners in Crawfordsburn Countrypark, on the 19th October was also a success.
Future project result dissemination opportunities include a Joint National Conference to be held in Vigo, Spain in June 2007 and the Final Conference will be held in Poole, UK in September 2007.
