[-] Devon County Council

Devon County Council is a United Kingdom Local Authority charged with the provision of community services for the County of Devon, SW England. Included within this service provision, the Council has regard for spatial planning of the coastal area, particularly with regard to development control, waste management, transport, emergency planning and the furtherance of Coastal Zone Management in partnership with key stakeholders. Devon County Council will be the Project Leader for the EROCIPS project.

CIIMAR is a non-profit, non-competitive organization devoted to research, divulgation and technology transfer in the area of Marine and Environmental Sciences. The main areas of research are Conservation and management of marine ecosystems and Aquaculture and marine biotechnologies.

Research at CIIMAR has been mainly directed to Biology, Ecology, Ecotoxicology, Parasitology, Physiology, Nutrition, Cultivation of Aquatic Species and Chemistry.

CETMAR is a non profit public foundation founded and funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology and by the Galician Government and supported by a number of public and private bodies such as: the Regional Council of Fisheries, Shellfish Gathering and Aquaculture, the Universities of Coruña, Santiago and Vigo, the Spanish Institute of Oceanography, the Spanish Council for Scientific Research and the National Technical Centre for Fishing Produce Conservation. The foundation aims to achieve inter-institutional coordination and interdisciplinary integration of all marine research and technological resources available in Galicia and to foster and channel links between R & D agents and the sea produce industry. It also aims to take all steps required for the preservation and responsible use of the marine environment and its resources, especially on the coast of Galicia. This role covers education and training, scientific research and technological development and innovation.

 

[-] Conselleria de Pesca y Asuntos Marítimos

The Consellería de Pesca y Asuntos Marítimos is the Organisation of the Autonomous Community of Galicia with competences on: Fishing management in interior waters, shellfisheries, aquaculture, fishermen's association, fishing industries, establishments dealing with storage, manipulation, sales and transformation of the fish products.

Fishing cooperation with third countries, maritime safety, fight against the pollution, planning and management of port activities related to fisheries, coastal area planning and management, and training on maritime and fishing subjects, maritime sports and diving.

 

[-] Conselleria de Medio Ambiente

The Dirección Xeral of the Centro de Desenvolvemento Sostible of the Consellería of Medio Ambiente from Xunta de Galicia has the commitment to:

- Administer the Sistema de Información Ambiental de Galicia (SIAM) as well as support its web page.
- Administer the network of meteorological stations of Xunta de Galicia.
- Elaborate projects to allow the public the access to the environmental information in terms of related laws, transparency and citizen opinions.
- Represent the region of Galicia in EIONET as part of the Environmental European Agency.
- Develop policies concerning the environmental sustainability of the different industrial and town councils of Galicia.

The region is involved in various areas (land planning, environment, education, economic development, etc) and especially works for the development of its territory, including its shoreline.

Environment and Heritage Service is an Executive agency within the Department of the Environment. The agency is the lead body in the implementation of the Government’s environmental strategy and policies in Northern Ireland. One of the main activities of the agency is the control of water and land pollution.

 

[-] Instituto Superior Técnico (IST)

Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), the Engineering School of Lisbon Technical University (Public University) is the biggest Engineering School in Portugal. The mission of MARETEC, a research group in IST, is to carry out research and development in the fields of marine environment and marine technologies and disseminate the research results through publication. The research is sponsored by research agencies, industry and services and by the university itself. The permanent research staff is strongly involved in university educational programmes of IST at the graduate and post-graduate levels.

Priority is given to interdisciplinary projects involving water quality, ecology and sediment transport. Environmental modelling at MARETEC was initiated in the early 80’s developing hydrodynamic models based on the shallow water equations and their application to coastal and ocean hydrodynamics. As computer capacity and knowledge increased, more generic and integrated models were developed and integrated into a modular system (MOHID).

[-] HIDROMOD

HIDROMOD, Modelação em Engenharia, Lda., is a Portuguese technical consulting private company which develops and applies technical software in engineering and scientific areas related to fluid mechanics.

HIDROMOD was established in 1992 having as main objectives to contribute to an effective technology transfer from the University to the market taking advantage of the high qualified human resources as they finished their post graduation studies. This close collaboration with the University is supported by the terms of a protocol established with the Instituto Superior Técnico (Lisbon Technical University) trough its marine technology investigation centre (MARETEC).

During a decade of existence, HIDROMOD accumulated an important experience in what concerns the analysis and modelling of processes related with wave climate, sediment transport by the combined action of waves and currents, water quality, oil spills and related emergency plans, etc.

HIDROMOD participated in the past in several oil dispersion studies in the frame of port emergency plans (ports of Leixões and Fortaleza), of environmental impact studies (Ports of Faro, Setúbal and Santos and two oil production platforms in Brazil). It has also participated in the consortium that reformulated the emergency plans of 20 oil terminals in Brazil from TRANSPETRO (a PETROBRAS company).

 

[-] Devon Wildlife Trust

Devon Wildlife Trust is an incorporated charity limited by Guarantee. The organization is closely involved in land and marine management, surveying, policy formulation and education. DWT employs highly qualified staff trained in all aspects of wildlife conservation. Hundreds of people, members and others, work on a voluntary basis; local conservation projects, monitoring local wildlife and raising funds.

 

[-] INTECMAR

The “Instituto Tecnolóxico para o Control do Medio Mariño de Galicia” (INTECMAR) is a centre assigned to the Ministry of Fisheries and Sea Affairs from the Galician government (Northwest of Spain). Its main functions are to implement the legislation on water quality and production of bivalve molluscs and other organisms derived from fishing, shellfish farming and aquaculture, and, particularly, to control oceanographic conditions and phytoplankton, marine biotoxins, chemical contamination and microbiology, concerning both products, as well as production areas. Considering the enormous socio-economic importance that marine resources have in Galicia, the monitoring of water and production areas developed by Intecmar is extremely relevant.
