What it is Intecmar?
The “Instituto Tecnolóxico para o Control do Medio Mariño de Galicia” (INTECMAR) is a centre assigned to the Ministry of Fisheries and Sea Affairs from the Galician government (Northwest of Spain). Its main functions are to implement the legislation on water quality and production of bivalve molluscs and other organisms derived from fishing, shellfish farming and aquaculture, and, particularly, to control oceanographic conditions and phytoplankton, marine biotoxins, chemical contamination and microbiology, concerning both products, as well as production areas. Considering the enormous socio-economic importance that marine resources have in Galicia, the monitoring of water and production areas developed by Intecmar is extremely relevant.
